Prabowo Acknowledges Tough Talks on Trump Tariffs & Reaches Agreement

President Prabowo Subianto recently shared details about his direct talks with U.S. President Donald Trump regarding trade tariffs, describing the negotiations as challenging but ultimately successful. The Indonesian President expressed gratitude that both sides were able to reach an agreement after tough discussions. During the talks, there was a mutual understanding of each nation’s interests, leading to the United States agreeing to reduce import tariffs on Indonesian goods from 32% to 19%. Prabowo highlighted the careful calculations made by the Indonesian government to protect the public and domestic workers’ interests throughout the negotiation process. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding Indonesian workers and maintaining a firm stance in the discussions. Prabowo also expressed confidence in Indonesia’s economic resilience in the face of global uncertainties and mentioned plans for a potential visit to the United States, with a meeting with President Trump in the works. Despite the gravity of the discussions, Prabowo added a light-hearted touch by joking about the possibility of a round of golf with Trump during the visit.
