Preventing Child Addiction: Importance of Physical Activity Spaces

Deputy Minister for Population and Family Development (Wamendukbangga) Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka emphasized the importance of parents staying updated on their children’s interests and engaging in physical activities together to prevent addiction to games and gadgets. This message was conveyed during the Double Check discussion on The Role of Family Development in Welcoming a Golden Indonesia 2045, organized by the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) in collaboration with Gempita in Jakarta. Isyana highlighted the necessity for parents to continuously learn and adapt to the fast-paced digital world, as children often outpace their parents in acquiring new knowledge. She also discussed the concept of “cheap dopamine,” which children seek through social media or online games, leading to addictive behaviors. Isyana recommended sports and outdoor activities as solutions to counter this trend, emphasizing the importance of physical movement for overall well-being. Veronica Tan, Deputy Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, shared insights on the RBI program, aimed at providing safe and inclusive spaces for women, children, and communities to empower them and foster creativity. The program encourages children to engage in traditional and creative games, sports, and activities, redirecting their focus away from excessive gadget use.
