The Free Health Check (CKG) program is hailed as the initial step towards a healthier nation by Senior Expert Hariqo Wibawa Satria from the Presidential Communication Office (PCO). This program aims to change people’s mindset about prioritizing their well-being and making health a lifelong commitment. With each passing Independence Day, the hope is not only to celebrate freedom but also to witness more Indonesians liberated from illnesses.
President Prabowo’s administration is focusing on various priority programs like CKG, the “Stop TB” campaign, revitalizing regional public hospitals, and providing allowances for medical specialists in remote areas. Despite Indonesia’s 80 years of independence, the country still faces a significant burden from diseases, impacting productivity and GDP. Studies show that illness-related losses cost up to 6.5% of GDP in 2015 and could increase to 7.2% by 2030 if left unaddressed.
Investing in health is crucial for Indonesia’s economic growth, as evident from the economic losses caused by smoking, obesity, and tropical diseases. Hariqo emphasizes the importance of health education, especially for children suffering from diabetes, obesity, and tooth decay. The CKG program serves not only as a preventive measure but also as a platform for health education.
The ultimate goal is for more citizens to be free from illnesses, contributing effectively to national development and economic growth. A healthy population leads to increased life expectancy and higher human resource productivity, which in turn boosts GDP. Improved public health can potentially spur GDP growth by 1-2% annually. Let us work together towards a healthier and more prosperous Indonesia.
